[video][the uncooperative speech bubble]
I need volunteers for an experiment.
[Smiling reasonably at the camera. This won't hurt one little bit.]

[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
No, it isn't easy, is it?
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
It isn't anyone's business but my own.
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]

-- I don't waste my time with wearing my heart on my sleeve, Mister Holmes.
Besides, I don't need the art in order to look into the minds and souls of the people around me. Most people are inept at hiding their emotions.

[He is totally in a snit.]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
So, rather stiffly:]
The status quo in this city makes no sense.
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]

[Tom stoutly refuses to refer to them as all-powerful beings.]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
That isn't good enough.
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Relinquishing his control is one step too far for Tom to ever truly reconcile.]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Rather thoughtfully -- Tom has dwelled on it before.]
A group of individuals recently went through the walls and came back alive.
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
Nothing has happened as a result.
[... and Tom is a blatant sociopath, so he doesn't really give a damn whether they died or not.]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[In mild irritation.]
People who are panicking act as if the fires of Hell are going to rain down upon them for entering the City, when nothing truly awful has happened at all. They got injured -- hardly something to complain about in a city where the small mammals are deadly.
What's aggravating is that they're yelling at each other when no one actually did anything unusual. Anyone should get tired of this city -- I have only been here for a little under two months and I want to be rid of the spirits. Instead, people are all too willing to allow themselves to be pushed around by a force they cannot even see. That isn't something to be feared, that is something to be rid of.
[An annoyed 'tch'.]
The fact that people seem so lax with their own fate is aggravating.
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
[Sherlock grins.]
But people have always found it easier to see things as inexplicable rather than challenging them. I don't mean my reasoned acceptance of the fact that the animus are more powerful than I am- because I'm trying to work out how to get home, as well. But as you say, a certain lax acceptance of fate.
[Voice // Private // Unhackable]
It's astonishing what people will choose to believe in order to avoid thinking.
[A brief pause as Tom contemplates that sentence.]
Which I suppose works well enough on my behalf, but annoying nonetheless.
